The objective of this project was to rework a famous design to obtain more insight into the methods used. The intention is not to copy but to consider the typographic treatment and composition utilized in a designer's work. To understand why the designer decided to make their decisions and turn that inspiration into my design. I took inspiration from Herbert Bayer's work Things To Come 1938 and created an album cover for Tigers Jaw Album I Won't Care How You Remember Me.

The Dada movement developed during World War I. It consisted of artists who rejected a capitalist society and instead favored shock value and protest. Herbert Bayer's work, Things To Come 1938, is considered a surrealist piece. Surrealism art influenced by the Dada movement contains similar unconventionality and shock value. The question of this project was how to connect the movement and its ideals to a band.

Tigers Jaw is an indie rock band apart of the emo-revival movement, a sub-genre of punk rock rooted in its expressive lyrics. The dada movement and the emo-revival movement are both in the belief of this idea of the counterculture. Tigers Jaw album is about reflecting on the past but moving forward with confidence, and Herbert Bayer's title Things To Come 1938 seemed a natural fit.
From this idea of reflection on the past but remembering there are always better days to come, I sewed together elements from Tigers Jaw album to imitate Bayer’s work. Most of the elements in this design are inspired by the lyrics in I Won’t Care How You Remember Me. The front and back cover sparked by the song Cat’s Cradle with lyrics like,
"Drew the blindfold from my brown eyes crystal view, then I realized."
The components on the back cover represent a childhood game called a cat’s cradle, where kids use string to create intricate shapes. The other details throughout the album inspired by the song Lemon Mouth with their lyric,
"Spoke to me through clenched teeth."
